Vermicelli Tutorial
This is a really easy little tutorial, but I've had a couple of requests for it, so I thought "Why not?" :o) This will be especially handy if you do my Cookie Text tutorial or my Ice-cream tutorial.
1. Create a new image, 400x400 pixels, with a transparent background.
Grid Settings 2. Go to File/Preferences/General Program Preferences. In the dialogue box that now appears, click on the tab that says Rulers and Units. Where it says Grid, set the Units to Pixels and make Horizontal and Vertical spacing both 50. I made the line colour black as I find it easier to see.
3. Go to View/Grid. You should now have grid lines on your image - these will define where we are going to put out sprinkles.
4. Select the Line tool. Make Type Freehand Line, Style Stroked, Width 4, Antialias ticked, Create as Vector and Close Path un-ticked. If you are going to be making chocolate vermicelli, choose a chocolately shade of brown. If you are making the candy vermicelli as I am here, select a pastel shade as your foreground colour - the 6 colours I used for this tutorial were #E5B8F1, #F9C08D, #FDBDDC, #A5E8AD, #B6E2F6 and #FAF47D
Drawing the sprinkles 5. On your canvas draw little lines in your selected colours within the grid squares until all the sqaures are filled. Don't overlap them or let them go over the edge of the grid.
6. Go to Image/Effects/Inner Bevel and apply the Frame bevel, but lower the Width down to 2.
7. If you are happy with the sprinkles like that, you can jump to step 8. I'm just going to add some more depth. Click on the Selection tool. Press CTRL+A to select the whole image. Click anywhere within the image & you will see that each individual sprinkle is now selected. Press SHIFT+CTRL+F to defloat the selection. Go to Image/Effects/Drop Shadow. Set the Colour to black, Opacity to 60, Blur to 5, Horizontal & Verical both to 1. Apply the drop shadow.
8. We are now going to save this as a tube. Go to File/Export/Picture Tube... Under Cells Across & Cells Down put 8, keep Selection Mode & Placement Mode as Random, but change Step to 80. Give your tube a name and ok it. If you now click on the Tube tool, you should see your tubes in the drop down list.
Your Vermicelly tube is complete!
